Kelly, the owner of Boxxfresh, sat down and for an interview with us about Boxxfresh and Haier’s UK joint brand campaign…Keep It Fresh, Reduce Food Waste campaign.
So, we will start by asking Kelly, tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
I’m a mum of three and started Boxxfresh in my forties through a major love of veg and passion for eating well. Getting real food back into our homes, helping and inspiring to eat & enjoy more fruit and veg. I trained as a personal trainer and went to Performing Arts school. Essence of setting up the business was about wanting more people to get hold of good food. From starting in my kitchen and then to a few boxes of fresh fruit and veggies in the back of my car, to growing and establishing a business that is founded on the belief that eating more of the good stuff - fresh fruits, veggies, herbs and salads - can not only benefit how we feel, our health, our family’s health, but also benefit our gorgeous planet.
How much has your company grown?
Boxxfresh has hugely grown through the demand for home delivery. Supported by our super passionate, wonderful team. Customers have found a new way of shopping and new ways of buying things.
Buying food is a big deal but we have real people behind the business that you connect with, speak with every day and give that personal feel with every order we deliver.
Tell us about your passion for healthy eating and healthy living?
I have a personal training and performing background I have always been interested in health and wellbeing. For me, food is amazing and can create many happy memories from food creativity or just family moments sitting around the table eating great food together. We have fantastic connections to wonderful local farmers and all of us here absolutely love what we do…and we love to inspire people to eat more fruit and veg and for customers to be able to buy more of the foods they love.
How do you suggest food wastage is improved?
We at Boxxfresh are huge champions on the need to reduce food waste. Millions of food items are thrown away each day and we can really educate people to be smarter and to be a little more mindful in how to improve this. We can all play a small part and I think consumers are becoming a lot more aware of tips and hints that can help or work.
So, you have teamed up on the Keep it Fresh, reduce Food waste campaign with Haier. Tell us a bit more about this?
It’s been a real privilege to have this brand partnership with Haier UK who are extremely forward-thinking company on the environment, food wastage and in their passion for wanting to create products which feature their Fresher Techs within their Cube range of fridge freezers that help you to save money and keep your food fresher for longer. We are absolutely delighted to have got this campaign off the ground. We have created a bespoke
campaign that is personalised, and Haier and our brand values totally complement each other.
Why plant based? Tell us how important this is for you?
It’s all about the veg if you like. We’re here to encourage eating more fruit and vegetables, helping you to put tailor your choice of fresh, whole, plant-based foods and to fall in love with the delicious seasonal vegetables, fruits and plants that our bodies need to look after our health and wellbeing.
If we can all do one thing for the good and the future of food, our health and the planet lets inspire everyone to eat more of the good stuff.
Tell us about some of the special features you have enjoyed using within the Haier Cube fridge freezer?
We have been hugely impressed with our Haier Cube Fridge Freezer. An extremely stylish design and great features. There are a range of great features but one we love is the Humidity Zone which allows you to preserve your fresh food for up to 2 x longer.
The other detail we love are how spacious and open the design is. The drawers are clear, organised, and really easy to see what food you have stored – which again is another benefit in that you don’t waste food because you can see what you have at an easy glance.
Have you got any top tips on how to keep your food fresher for longer and store food safely in your refrigerator?
We have loads of tips and tricks on how to keep your Fresh veggies fresher for longer in the fridge without plastic.
Our local watercress loves water! Simply plunge your bundles in a jug of cold water (like putting flowers in water the other way round) and store in the fridge.
Asparagus top tip – Keep these spears in fresh, cold water. Pop the thick cut ends in water leaving the tender tips facing up.
Salads and Greens- Wrap in a damp tea towel or kitchen paper – you can keep them whole or wash and prep the leaves before you wrap and store them, so you have them ready!
You can also ensure your carrots don’t bend or lose their colour just by breaking off the leafy bunches on the end and storing in the Humidity Drawer which is what we do and your produce will last for up to 2 weeks longer!
These tips really help reduce food waste, which is a win win for us all.
